I'm running an optimization routine using PROC OPTMODEL. On my previous computer (an old Surface) it was painfully slow. I was able to get a new laptop with 16GB memory, the latest Intel quad processor, and an SSD drive. Yet my algorithms run "only" three times faster. I've tried using the PERFORMANCE statement and there was no change. Is there any way to make PROC OPTMODEL use all four processors and/or speed up the run time? ... View more

I've got an algorithm with around 300 parameters that I'm trying to optimize using PROC OPTLSO. When I run the optimization using 1,990 observations the routine takes 10 seconds to complete. Yet when I add observation #1991 the routines takes 9 minutes to finish. I tried two things: 1. Using a different data set, and trying it out with 1991 observations. No problem. So it's not that the optimization became saturated. 2. Looked at observation #1991 to see if it differed substantially from the others. The answer was NO. I'm using Pandas read_sas method to read a SAS data set into Python. The problem is that a SAS data set stores datetime values as seconds since 1/1/1960 (I think that's right). I want to use Pandas' datetime module, but it expects a datetime format, not an integer.
