I wanted to export/import file from UNIX to WINDOWS (vice versa), if it is locally then no issues it will work but it should work on cross platforms.

I think I have found the way: The way we can do this is by defining ODBC entries on the Win Server pointing to whatever folder that is that users want to use. Create an ODBC driver entry for a text file and point it to the directory that you want to write to. Then you use a named literal to create it. Then you can run code like this. libname test pcfiles server='mypcfileserver.com' port=9621 dsn='mytexter'; data test.'mystuff.csv'n ; set sashelp.class; run;

I’m wondering if we have any possibility to export/import data to/from CSV files from LINUX SAS to Windows PC using PC File Server? Please understand the source CSV file must be on Windows PC. We are able to do this successfully with MS Excel and MS Access, but problem is with only CSV. Could you help me in getting this done? I appreciate if you can get sample syntax for this. Note: We can export CSV within LINUX using proc export, but that is not what I am looking for.

I can think of 2 possibilities here. It’s possible that character fields have different length specifications in the 2 databases, causing one SAS dataset to occupy more space than the other. Note that Oracle has some data types that are not supported in Greenplum. The ones I think could affect the resulting SAS dataset size are Oracle LONG, CLOB, LONG RAW, and BLOB RAW. If the Oracle DB has any columns specified with these types, they could result in SAS Character fields up to 32K long. It’s possible that one of the SAS datasets is being compressed using SAS compression but the other is not. Root Cause : The issue is with CLOB datatype, apparently in Greenplum the CLOB size is lesser compared to Oracle, the difference in file size is seen only for tables that have this CLOB datatype and all other are same,

One of the database which we use is migrated from Greenplum to Oracle So our team is doing some performance test by pulling same data from Oracle and Green Plum (1000 Records Table) to SAS where table coming from oracle DB is getting created by occupying 600 - 800 MB of size where as table coming from Green Plum is getting created by occupying 300MB of space under SAS work area. And also date coloumn is getting created along with timestamp in table that was created from Oracle Database (tnsnames.ora) and same issue is not there on Green Plum (ODBC Connection). Is there any setting that need to be done to avoid this or is it expected?

Yes, I have found that the choice of technique matters to run time for both procedures. The documentation for HPNLMOD says that LEVMAR technique is the default, but in my experience, the procedure always uses NRRIDG technique if I don’t specify the technique. I don’t know if it matters, but I am using the “general” distribution rather than a built-in distribution (i.e., using a user-defined likelihood function). I have found that, for a dataset of 500,000 obs or so, the NRRIDG technique was faster than other techniques. But once the dataset was more than 1,000,000 obs, it seems that the QUANEW technique becomes significantly faster.

Yes, both are running on Grid. They are each running with their default optimization method. I believe they are using the same convergence criterion, but I will check that. I’ve tried other optimization methods with each, but the default has proven to be faster than others.

PROC HPNLMOD and PROC NLMIXED : Which one is quick and good for estimation of model? Initailly I thought the process was hung when I run PROC HPNLMOD, but actually it was not hung. Rather, it was taking longer than the PROC NLMIXED estimation of the same model. Why is PROC HPNLMOD taking longer than NLMIXED -- in real time as well as in CPU time? Despite being a high-performance procedure and using 4 CPUs instead of 1, HPNLMOD is faster only if my dataset is smallish (about 100,000 and 13 variables). With a dataset of about 200,000 obs, its CPU time is much longer, and its real time only a little shorter, than NLMIXED. And for 2 million obs, HPNLMOD is *slower* in real time (and also in CPU time). This doesn't make sense to me, as HPNLMOD is supposed to be a high-performance procedure compared to NLMIXED. Is there something I am not understanding about system parameters/constraints and that prevents me from obtaining the performance benefits of using HPNLMOD instead of NLMIXED? Runing my estimation routine on SASGrid (9.4V) from EG 7.12 Any help would be greatly appreciated...

what if we get the same error when running against local server? user has no issue when running remotely but when runningon his own machine giving the error. ERROR: The SAS/ACCESS Interface to DB2 cannot be loaded. The SASDBU code appendage could not be loaded. ERROR: Error in the LIBNAME statement. SAS/ACCESS Interface to DB2 is installed. Note: Ealirer the same code was working in 9.3, we have installed 9.4 on user's machine then issue started when running code locally.

After understating the process and background communication in my research, here is the back ground that SAS does for a request it receive via Web Application: Please correct if I went wrong in understanding which is very helpful. Step 1: User launches SAS Web Report Studio (page request). WRS prompts the user for the username and password (what user sees) What SAS Does: A SAS component within the Web application server (the Logon Manager application) prompts the user for credentials. The Web container's Java Authentication and Authorization Service (JAAS) login module coordinates the verification of the credentials Verifies user credentials via authentication provider. JAAS then passes the authenticated ID to the SAS trusted login module A trusted connection is established to the SAS Metadata Server (SAS Authentication Service -> SAS Remote Services -> SAS Metadata Server) SAS Metadata Server identifies the user in the SAS metadata repository Resolves assignment of SAS metadata roles and access controls Connection is established between middle tier application and the metadata server Step 2: Users requests a web report What SAS Does: The request goes from the browser back to SAS Web Report Studio on the middle tier. SAS Web Report Studio must obtain both the structure for the report (how it will look) and the data. The structure for the report is stored in the SAS Content Server. SAS Web Report Studio sends a query to the SAS Metadata Server asking where the SAS Content Server resides and queries the SAS Metadata Server to make sure that your SAS ID is authorized to view this report and use the data sources that are associated with it. WRS sends a request to the SAS Content Server to retrieve the stored XML that describes the structure of the report. A request is sent to the SAS Metadata Server for information about where the data resides, the information map that is required to decode the query, and whether you have the authority to read that data. Once SAS Web Report Studio receives the required information, it asks the SAS object spawner to give it access to a SAS Workspace Server or SAS Stored Process Server. SAS Web Report Studio sends the query to the SAS session that it obtained. The SAS server then uses a configured data source engine, such as SAS/ACCESS, to contact the database, send the query, and receive the results. The ResultSet is rephrased into the business language that is used by the information map and is sent back to SAS Web Report Studio, which sends the report to your browser. Step 3: User closes/ quits Web Report Studio The workspace session that was opened on behalf of the user is shut down when their clients have completed their work.
