Another minor difference is while eliminating duplicate rows: The DISTINCT keyword is common between T-SQL and PROC SQL. PROC SQL also has an alternative, the UNIQUE keyword. This, I believe, isn't available in T-SQL.

Hi, The omission of the AS keyword in PROC SQL causes the new column name to be _TEMA001. Does TEMA stand for Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Agent or does it have some other significance in SAS? proc sql; create table work.birth_months as select Employee_ID, Birth_Date, month(Birth_Date) /*as Birth_Month*/, Employee_Gender from orion.employee_information; describe table work.birth_months; select * from work.birth_months; quit;

Hi @Rick_SAS, thanks very much for the detailed explanation. I will read through the documentation for the PROC STDIZE procedure for a better understanding. Am I correct in assuming then that a transformation using the Euclidean Length would only be used for scientific / mathematical data and cannot be used in domains like marketing? If this is incorrect would there be an example from the marketing / business domain that you can point me to in which this transformation is used to analyse data and generate insight?

While working with the Standardize Data Task in SAS Studio 3.5 I've come across 'Euclidean length' as a standardisation method. I understand how z-scores are obtained by subtracting mean from each observation and dividing the result by standard deviation. What is Euclidean distance and how does it help in standardisation? For example, if we are using the sashelp.baseball dataset, what would using the 'Euclidean length' method of standardisation for the 'nhits' (number of hits) variable do for us?

Thank you for your input @LinusH. This is great I'm sure I will learn more along the way. One difference I chanced upon recently was with the AS keyword while assigning Aliases. The AS keyword is recommended but can be omitted while assigning an Alias in T-SQL. Not having the AS keyword while assigning an Alias in PROC SQL causes an error.

Hi, in an upcoming engagement I will need to use T-SQL instead of SAS and PROC SQL. Has anyone used T-SQL before? If so, are there any important differences in syntax that might be of value to know beforehand. Also, is there a resource that I can refer to that might show me how a certain query might be written differently in T-SQL compared to PROC SQL. The T-SQL will be used primarily for querying and reporting purposes rather than database administration purposes.

I've created a process flow in SAS Studio 3.5 (University Edition). The process flow contains 3 nodes. Node 1: Import a csv file Node 2: List data Node 3: Create a scatter plot All of the three nodes have been created using pre-written tasks in SAS Studio. When I execute the process flow, I can see that the csv file has been imported into the work folder. However, neither can I see the data being listed nor can I see the scatter plot. I have checked the 'Automatically open generated output data' box in Preferences > Results. Please see the attached screenshot for more detail. Any ideas? Cheers, Sandesh.

Thanks for the information Beverly. The university edition for SAS Studio is a great product as it stands. I look forward to additional functionality being added to it. For now, I think I need to focus on the statistical functionality that SAS Studio university edition offers at the moment and get a handle on SAS/STAT, which is a bit technical but I'm sure is a great asset for people in the industry that are comfortable with using and writing statistical procedures. Hi @Rick_SAS, I have gone back and had a look at the charts with the interpretation you provided. One additional point that I wanted to make was, the segment in row 3, column 1 (Horsepower vs. MPG_City) has a thicker plot compared to that in row 2, column 1 (Horsepower vs. MPG_Highway). I would interpret these charts as a vehicle would be more fuel efficient on the highway compared to a similar vehicle in the city. This confirms what we would know generally know about driving in the city vis-à-vis driving on the highway. Cheers, Sandesh.

Hi, I am using the SAS Studio 3.5: Task Reference document to become more familiar with using a GUI for SAS 9.4. The dataset recommended for the example is sashelp.cars. Within Tasks and Utilities > Tasks > Statistical Tasks > Data Exploration I have created a Scatter Plot Matrix With: Continuous variables: Horsepower, MPG_City and MPG_Highway Classification variables: Type and DriveTrain On executing the generated code Scatter Plot Matrices are produced. I have attached the output as an attachment. What do these Scatter Plot Matrices signify and how can these be interpreted for this particular dataset and the analysis variables? Also, for future reference does SAS have any online documentation on how to interpret graphs and charts for the examples that they have in their documentation? Cheers, Sandesh.

Thank you for your response @ChrisHemedinger. Have tried downloading the User's Guide earlier without much success. Have a download speed of 6 Mbps and the necessary space to download the 500 MB file. As you've mentioned at the moment there are PDFs available only for individual procedures, which is a bit cumbersome. Cheers, Sandesh.
