Indeed, on those cases, it is hard to qualify the impact and root of a possible difference between environments. My approach would go to try to discard any business/functional differences, then go into the technical. I would suggest to give a quick look to the technical blueprint of your architecture/deployment, to know which components are involved, then evaluate on each of them, including the network components such as firewalls etc if needed, as last resort. PS. if you are on Windows, you can give a look to the Windows Logs, and in UNIX systems, to the sys logs. Any important error should be logged there, independant of it is a system, security or application error.
