Yes, it worked to get the three variables. However, it is giving me only one observation for the current day (today). My other 50 observations from the original dataset are not there. Thoughts?

My date variable looks like this in the dataset: Date_Delivery Tue Aug 15, 2017 18:43:00 EDT Mon Sep 11, 2017 10:13:00 EDT Tue Aug 29, 2017 23:29:00 EDT Data want -- three variables: Date Day of Week Time 08/15/2017 Tue 6:43 PM 09/11/2017 Mon 10:13 AM 08/29/2017 Tue 11:29 PM Ive tried many different codes on the SAS boards, but none are working. Suggestions for codes? And can you explain what the code is doing? Thanks!

@HB, thanks! This line "if first.study_id and first.pregnancynum_rank and gestational_diabetes = 1;" is what I was looking for. Didn't realize you could do 2 first. in one if statement. Thanks again!

Right got it. Get first.study_id then join back to original dataset by study_id and pregnancynum. Thanks!

I tried that too. But it only output the first observation, not the entire group of observations, for the pregnancy of interest. Do you have sample code you could provide to show me what you mean ? thank you

The dataset has moms with between 1-7 pregnancies. A woman with multiple pregnancies does not necessarily have gestatational diabetes during all her pregnancies. So the dataset I have, contains the pregnancies (pregnancynum 1,2,3,4,5,6,and/or 7) for which the mom had gest. daibetes. Mom study_id 2, for example, only has 1 pregnancy in the dataset when she had gest. diabetes. Her pregnancy number 1, she did not have the condition. So I need all her observations associated with the pregnancy #2. Mom study_id 4 has had 6 babies in the dataset, but only had gest. diabetes for pregnancy 3 and 6. I don't want to keep the observations for more than 1 pregnancy with GDM. Therefore, I want her observations associated with her first gest. diabetes pregnancy (or number 3 only). Does that make sense? I want to output all the data associated with the first gest. diabetes pregnancy in the dataset, and get rid of the 2nd, 3rd.....nth gest.diabetes prenancies.

Okay, I understand the PROC SQL statment. But what is the first part (below)? Can I apply the PROC SQL to the data I have? Or do I need to use the following code somehow? Thank you. For any mothers that have multiple_gestation=1 for any of the visits within that pregancy number rank, then multiple_gestation=1 for all visits within the pregnancy number rank. For example, see data below. Mother study_id=1 did not have gest_diab during her first pregnancy, but had gest_diabetes during her second preg. Need to get the gest_diabetes =1 for visit_id 2 & 3 for that mom (but not for 1st preg (visit_id 1)). Same with mom study_id 4. Her 1st pregnancy she did not have gest_diabetes, but had gest_diabetes during her second preg. Visit_id 11 & 12 for mom study_id 4 needs to equal 1, but her visit_id 9 and 10 should stay 0. The mothers with multiple_gestation=0 for all pregnancies would be 0 for all visits within all pregnancy ranks. Here is what I need to do for each: For dataset 1, if a mother has gestational diabetes in ANY pregnancynum_rank (in pregnancy 1,2...n), then I want to output a dataset of ALL her pregnancy visits (whether or not that pregnancy had gestational diabetes).
