SAS Viya uses the Cloud Analytics Service (CAS) to perform tasks. The smallest unit of work for the CAS server is a CAS action. Think of CAS actions as powerful functions or methods created specifically to process data in the CAS server. We'll cover more CAS action details when we feature them in January's edition of the SAS Bowl.
CAS actions can load data, transform data, compute statistics, perform analytics and create output. Each action is configured by specifying a set of input parameters. Running a CAS action in the CAS server processes the action's parameters and the data and creates an action result. Actions are organized into functional groups call Action Sets.
Run CAS Actions from anywhere! You can run CAS actions directly from SAS, using an open source language of your choice, or even through REST API calls. This makes CAS actions quite effective, versatile, and mobile.
CAS actions are well documented. Below is a small sample of resources to get you started. We'll pull from these links to create questions for the game.
For those who may be new to the SAS Bowl, you can find game history and specifics in this Community memo. There you'll also find links to previous events, which include recordings.
Register for the event and receive an invite with game details and a Teams meeting link. On game day, Join the TEAMS meeting to play, and show off your SAS and worldly knowledge while competing for bragging rights and SAS Community game gear.
