Unless I'm mistaking what the issue is, you can have up to 2 different "tabs" open by splitting the window.

Using the Workspace Layout button you should be able to split the screen horizontally or vertically.

An additional thing is, if you have a code window open you can further split it by selecting the little rectangle at the bottom of the code window (to the left of the left scroll arrow) and drag across a bar to split a code window.

I agree there should be more ability to split up windows however. Sometimes I want more than 2 or 3 open at a time.

Hi BrianDoesSas,

I would like to see various tabs relating to different processes across the top of my project designer like in version 4.0. I could have, for example, a program node open from one process, a HTML output from another process and a SAS table from another process available to be opened across the top.

The workspace layout lets me have 2 processes open simulataneously which will help me somewhat. The little rectangle allows me to have 2 instances of the same program node open simultaneously, something which I do not find particularly useful. I wish SAS just kept the tabbing structure available in version 4.0.

Thanks for your help.

I agree that using tabs, particularly for navigating around program nodes, would be more productive than the current workspace paradigm.

Code developers like myself tend to work on multiple programs at the same time. With EG 5.1 it takes two mouse clicks to navigate between program nodes if they are not already showing in the two workspaces available. If they were in tabs it would be one mouse click. A minor issue you might think? However if you are doing this all day long, working on major projects with many programs it becomes one of those little "paper cuts" that you know is significantly slowing you down.

I preferred the v4.x fully windowed (MDI) option instead of tabs but this is the same issue. With v5.1 we are now effectively limited to two open windows, stacked or side-by-side. With the larger, multi monitor set ups we have these days this seems like a retrograde step.
