The importance of always checking the log can't be understated. Why not make that process easier with a default log pop up?
Setting "autopop on" is currently a SAS option, but this must be done every session. I think instead this should be the default, with the option of setting "autopop off."
Options like that are easily added in an autoexec.sas or even the config file.
Or use the Keys window, F9, and find or create a function key with Submit;log; Then use that key, likely F8 by defualt, to submit code instead of point-and-grunt at the run icon.
This will submit a whole file if nothing is highlighted or only highlighted code.
Absolutely - adding those options is helpful. However, neither of those steps would be necessary with the proposed change.
meantime, while the request is not yet implemented, consider implementing a few commands and saving/reusing your sasuser.profile. The commands are
log; autopop on; wsave
I found a pretty cool add-in to Base SAS on www.tatesoft.com that may be very usefull to you. The tool called Log Analyser is integrated into Base SAS and can produce Log summary report in a second. You may also analyse log in details if you wish. Really great tool!
