My memory is that tagsets.excelxp writes Excel 2003 xml files.  And that Microsoft didn't support embedding images in Excel 2003 xml.

I think MS does in the latest version, and assume SAS is working on a tagset that will write the latest version of Excel xml  (or perhaps .xlsx, since that is just zipped xml, right?).

TAGSETS.EXCELXP creates Microsoft-specific Spreadsheet Markup Language XML, as created for Excel 2002/2003. By Microsoft design, image support was NOT included in the XML spec. SAS cannot modify the Microsoft specification. Any image support would have to be in a different destination. I believe that R&D is working on an ODS destination that will create create workbooks/worksheets that conform to a different spec. I do not know whether the new destination will support images or not. If you use ODS MSOFFICE2K or ODS TAGSETS.MSOFFICE2K_X, you can put images into your output and the images will be included in the file when Excel opens the HTML-based results.
