This functionality already exists, although not by using copy and paste.  For example if you have an existing computed column YEAR_DATE, all you have to to is create a new computed column, and in step 1 of the new computed column wizard, choose "from an existing computed column".  Then choose the YEAR_DATE computed column.  In step 2 of the wizard, just change the year function to month, and in step 3 give the computed column the name MONTH_DATE and click finish.

Why not but this is not intuitive.

In EG 5.1, the Query Builder also supports query templates -- which allows you to reuse complete query definitions across different projects.  See an example at:
