Hello SAS Community,
I recently deployed SAS Viya using the pay-as-you-go model, and I was surprised by the billing amount—it exceeded my expectations. This experience prompted me to explore alternatives that could offer more control over costs while still leveraging the powerful capabilities of SAS Viya.
Here are a few options I’m considering:
Deploying SAS Viya on My Own Server: I’m looking into the possibility of deploying SAS Viya on my own infrastructure. Whether it's on-premise or through a self-managed cloud (like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), this option would allow me to control compute and storage resources more effectively. However, it does mean taking on the responsibility of infrastructure management.
Interesting question. How many users do you have? How much data do you use? I would say as a general rule that the more you look after yourself the cheaper it should be. As a starting point I suggest you ask for an on-premises Viya quote from SAS and also an own-cloud quote.
335k INR / month seems cheap for a business, but expensive for an individual. Is this an enterprise environment that is being used by many users (how many? Doing what?) or is this just for you to practice/test/learn with?
Depending on what you're doing, I wonder if SAS Viya Workbench might be a cheaper option to consider.
In my experience Viya now uses user-based pricing rather than the SAS 9 core-based one. Depending on the number of users 335K might be cheap or expensive and would also depend on the products included.
