Use Case

SAS Intelligent Decisioning

A marketing decisioning analyst designing a customer segmentation tree capitalizes on the new copy and paste branch path feature to quickly reuse a complex eligibility branch for a VIP promotion in multiple parts of their flow. After right-clicking the “High-Value Customer” node and selecting “Copy branch path,” they navigate to the “Loyalty Tier” node elsewhere in the tree, choose “Paste branch path,” and in the Add window opt to “Insert the new item in front of the existing node,” mapping the downstream logic so that all loyalty tiers funnel through the VIP checks.

In another segment, they instead “Replace the existing node and map the existing downstream content” to swap out the criteria entirely while preserving subsequent actions. When testing a simpler offer, they choose “Replace the existing node and delete the existing downstream content” to drop the old logic altogether. Throughout, they use “View change details” to verify the new branching structure before clicking Save, dramatically cutting development time by eliminating manual rebuilds of identical decision paths.

Tip of the Month

Brought to you by David Weik

Senior Software Development Engineer, SAS

Quick tip: The SAS extension for Visual Studio Code enables you to program in a notebook style.

In addition to enabling you to easily integrate SAS, Python, SQL and Markdown code into a singular notebook, you also get the ability to export these notebooks as .sas files and .html files.

The .sas files are great if you want to move from the more experimental/exploration phase that notebooks facilitate into a regular batch process, and .html files are great for documentation or sharing assets with colleagues.

From the More Actions menu, select the Export option. Then, in the pop-up, you can choose how you want to export the notebook.
