Hi,
Could someone point me in the direction of an article that covers of the pros and cons of compressing data before loading it into memory please ?
I understand the benefits of compressing data but I would like to understand how the data is stored and managed in memory also what are benefits once it is in memory such as performance.
Cheers
Rae
Hi Rae,
You may want to take a look at the following thread that discusses compression in SAS Visual Analytics 7.1
Furthermore, there are many SAS papers and documents that outline the general pros and cons of compression you may want to look at. Some SAS documentation links to get you started are:
SAS(R) LASR(TM) Analytic Server 2.5: Reference Guide
SAS(R) 9.4 Intelligence Platform: Data Administration Guide, Third Edition
Kind Regards,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,
Thank you for the prompt response.
I have just read the articles you mentioned and now I have a better understanding of the pros and cons with having compressed data in memory.
Cheers again
Rae
