This infographic shows popular names in the United States collected by the Social Security Administration from 1920 to 2022. I used a cluster analysis object to classify names given their popularity over the years and used derived cluster identifiers for some logical grouping in related word cloud visuals. Cluster #1 (the large blue ellipse) describes names which where highly ranked during most of the recorded time span and includes names such as Michael, Robert or John. Interestingly, those names aren't as popular in more recent years. Male names such as Liam, Noah or Oliver or Female names such as Olivia, Emma or Charlotte - are the most popular names in 2022. The historic time line for those top 3 names shows, that these became popular in the 1990.

I also included a geographic distribution by states, showing the most popular name for each state. I decided to break up the geo map, so I get states such as Hawaii and Alaska closer to the main land. The bottom large scatter plot, shows the rank distribution given the difference compared to 1920. Names to the far left, increased their ranking in 2020, names to the right lost popularity and rarely chosen today.

You can also view the ultra-high resolution version of the graphic (resolution: 1600x3000, size: 3MB, format: PNG) or explore the more interactive SAS Visual Analytics SDK report (offline version of the report).

Enjoy!
