This infographic provides a detailed look at the historic research facilities that have played a crucial role in Antarctica's exploration, highlighting their operators and contributions to our understanding of this remote continent. Additionally, it features an overview of Emperor penguin colonies, showcasing the resilience of these remarkable birds in one of Earth's harshest environments.

I utilized a custom geographical provider to map out the boundaries of known land and ice shield areas. To visualize known facilities, including stations, depots, and laboratories, I overlaid the map with data from the National Antarctic Program. High-resolution satellite imagery from the 2009 breeding season reveals the distribution of Emperor penguin colonies, some with populations exceeding 25,000! A geographical cluster map was used to effectively display the overall distribution across this icy continent.
