Inbreeding coefficient and Kinship with SAS by Armando Valdés in spanish

Hello friends!!, in this publication i show an exercise in spanish to obtain genetic indicators

(Kinship and consaguinity) using the procedure ‘Proc Inbreed” in SAS. Te code can be downloaded in the attached document, for any question or comment, you can writenme a message.



Inbreeding coefficient:

Fraction of the loci with identical alleles by offspring in animal X.

If the inbreeding coefficient of animal X is 0.25, then it is 25% more homozygous than the breed average


Kinship coefficient:

Proportion of genes in common (identical by offspring) between individuals (relatives).

If the  kinship coefficient between two animals is 0.25, then these have 25% more genes in common than another pair of individuals randomly taken from the population (breed)


Additive genetic relationship:

Measures the fraction of additive genetic effects that  two animals have in common.

Indicates how reliable the records are in one of the relatives to predict the additive genetic value of the other relative


Inbreeding coefficient=F(X)

Additive Genetic Relationship=A(XY)

Kinship coefficient=R(XY)
