Is proc hpsplit same as (rpart) function in R?

They both create decision trees, I don't know if they use the same methods and highly doubt it actually.

For some simple problems, it might be. Hpsplit is designed for exploiting large datasets. If you want a more user friendly Partition platform for small datasets, look at JMP.
