Hi! My apologies if this is a silly question, but I can't find info on whether or not SAS will perform latent profile analysis (similar to latent class but with continuous indicators, I believe) - is this possible in SAS, or would I need an extra software package, or something like that?

Thanks for your time and help!

There are latent procs, but they were written by external parties, not SAS. They're not shipped directly with SAS AFAIK.

However, there are other methods, FMM, that may be possible to implement the methodology of interest.

You may want to contact SAS support, if you don't get an answer here.

You should describe, or at least provide a link to a source, what "latent profile analysis" may be. There are very many professions that have a jargon term for their specific use of a (sometimes) very common technique.

For instance, do you recognize "OB Analysis"? Hint: not related to obstetrics.

I google latent profile analysis and came up with SAS and R solutions

SAS paper

It looks like IML/R provides even more solutions.

Thanks for your reply - I've read through the article you attached before, and unfortunately, that paper doesn't mention whether or not LPA can be used with SAS (only talks about LCA/LTA as a SAS procedure and what LPA is, but not a procedure for it - does this make sense?)

From the research I've done, I'm beginning to think I may need to use a different latent measurement tool. Thanks for your time and help!!

Thank you so much!

My apologies for the ambiguity. I'm looking at LPA as a person-centered approach for measuring motivation profiles within college students. I can upload a few journal articles, if that would be helpful, and I've included the link to an abstract below.

Thanks again!
