How do I sort the data based on the Capacity which is the string variable?  (I want to order descending capacity)

I tried the following codes, but it provide the same output:

proc sort data= stats2 SORTSEQ= LINGUISTIC  ;
by capacity;
run;

 Thank You.

Hello @Golf,

Just add the collating option NUMERIC_COLLATION=ON:

proc sort data=stats2 sortseq=linguistic(numeric_collation=on);

You're probably better off extracting the number out of your Capacity column using the scan function instead of trying to do a linguistic sort.

Linguistic sort is a dictionary order meaning 10 -19 comes right after 1.
