copying obs with different name

I know the title line is confusing, but here's what I need.  I have a Variable 1 that has a whole bunch of provinces.  But if a province = A then I want 3 more provinces to also = a... still confused.. see below:

HAVE:

Prov  Data

A        12

B        11

C        19

D        14

I want 3 new Prov's (E, F and G) that now only adopt the values from C:

WANT:

Prov   Data

A        12

B        11

C        19

D        14

E        19

F        19

G        19;

Thanks

Re: copying obs with different name

A little more brief.

data new_prov;
set prov;

/* retain original provs */
output;

/* add some more provs based on current one if it matches the pattern */
if prov="C" then do;
  do prov="E", "F","G";
   output;
  end;
run;

Re: copying obs with different name

Hello,

Consider using something like the following code:

data new_prov;
set prov;

/* retain original provs */
output;

/* add some more provs based on current one if it matches the pattern */
if prov="C" then
  do;
   prov="E";
   output;
   prov="F";
   output;
   prov="G";
   output;
  end;
run;

It's probably not perfect but I hope it can give you some idea.

Best regards,
Sebastian
