I have a variable which contains 2 character digits per observation. For e.g
AA , BB , BC & so on....

My problem is Of some 30 lakhs such variables i have in my data few are having only one digit . For eg. A .

I need to manintain 2 digit length in character format.
So if its just 'A' then i need to have these observations as 'AX' or like

Zw. format doesn't work since it needs Numeric variable to start with whereas I have a character variable. Message was edited by: Wanderer

Use a DATA step approach with the TRANSLATE function to convert blank to some non-blank character.
