Problem with large PROC TABULATE output

The following PROC TABULATE creates a large output file. I have no problem using the file created by the OUT option, but the procedure also wants to open a Results Viewer window that uses far too many system resources. Unless I manually close that window, any succeeding data step or procedure runs extremely slowly. How do I prevent the opening of a Results Viewer window in PROC TABULATE? I did not see a NOPRINT option in the manual, and when I tried it, it didn't work. I'm using SAS 9.3

PROC TABULATE MISSING ORDER=DATA DATA=D1 OUT=D2;

      CLASS COUNTY CAUSE ISEX AGE_GP/ PRELOADFMT;

      TABLE (COUNTY ALL)*(CAUSE ALL)*(ISEX ALL), (AGE_GP ALL)/ PRINTMISS;

      FORMAT COUNTY COUNTY_A.;

      FORMAT ISEX SEX.;

      FORMAT CAUSE $CA039DZ.;

      FORMAT AGE_GP agegrp.;

RUN;

Thanks,

David

Problem with large PROC TABULATE output

Hi:

  By the "Results Viewer" window, do you mean the automatically generated ODS HTML file?

  You might try turning off the Tools --> Options --> Preferences --> choice as described here:http://support.sas.com/kb/42/874.html

  Or you could take full control of your output by putting this code BEFORE your TABULATE. This will turn off the automatically generated HTML file, however, so you have to decide whether you want to use the Tools

ODS _ALL_ CLOSE;

ODS LISTING;

Problem with large PROC TABULATE output

Cynthia, is there a way to turn the generation of an HTML file back on for steps after the PROC TABULATE that has been problematic?

Problem with large PROC TABULATE output

Hi:

  I believe you need to go back to the Tools--> Window (if that was the choice you made) and turn on the automatic HTML file. If you log off and log on SAS, the default settings should start up again. I also think you can do this in code without changing the Tools Window:

ODS LISTING CLOSE:

ODS HTML;

ODS PREFERENCES;

(ODS PREFERENCES; statement  notifies an existing destination that it needs to reprocess the preferences. )

Personally, I'm sort of a control person, so I prefer the "full control" method. I never generate the automatic file. I like to create my own names and file locations for the results file, instead of the automatically generated name.

  How you turned the HTML file OFF for PROC TABULATE -- will make a difference in how you turn the HTML file back ON. So you might want to experiment and/or work with Tech Support for the best way (code or window) to implement what you want to do.
