# Difference between proc glm and proc mixed

hi good morning,

i want to know detailed back ground about proc glm and proc mixed! in which situation or case we use this concept and when we prefer this procedures.

I refer you to the excellent book SAS for Mixed Models, Second Edition, by Littel et al.  There are multiple examples comparing GLM and MIXED, with details throughout.

Simple explanation is the coefficient of parameter is also a random variable .

E.X.

Here is General Linear Model :    Y=a + b*X + E      < - - E is a random variable

Here is Mixed Model :                 Y=a +(b+e)*X + E      <-- both E and e are random variables .

As Steve point out to check some statistical books.

BTW, I am also a rookie of statistical theory.
