I have a dataset that has a variable 'volcano' where responses are coded as 'rupture' or 'no rupture.' I want to create a character yes/no format and apply it to the 'volcano' variable so that 'rupture' changes to 'yes' and 'no rupture' changes to 'no.' I know how to do this using IF/THEN statements, but not using a format. How do I apply this update to the dataset/'volcano' variable using a character yes/no format?
Hi.
proc format;
value $ yesno "rupture" = "Yes"
"no rupture" = "No"
;
quit;
data want;
set have;
format volcano $yesno.;
run;
Good luck!
Anca.
PS: make sure that the spelling of 'rupture'/'no rupture' is exactly as in the variable's value.

Thanks, that worked!
