Registration Questions
How do I create:
- Each team member/person needs to create:
- SAS user Profile: fill out the SAS Profile form.
- SAS Community (SAS Hacker's Hub) Profile: fill out the SAS Communities Profile form.
- Each team needs to create: SAS Hacker's Hub Team Profile
- First, make sure you created a SAS Profile. Then, create a SAS Communities profile.
- Each team will need to create a Team Profile. Refer to the post about how to fill out a team profile for more info.
What does a complete registration include?
- Each team member needs to:
- Create a SAS Profile (or re-use an existing SAS Profile)
- Fill out a Registration Form and Submit the Form.
- Create a SAS Communities profile (or re-use an existing SAS Communities profile)
- Opt-in to Hacker’s Hub
- Each team needs to:
- Create a Hacker’s Hub Team Profile (1 per team). Refer to the post about how to fill out a team profile for more info.
- Upload intro video and/or team photo to Hacker's Hub (optional)
What if I have problems registering?

What is the final date to register?

How do I check to see if I have a SAS profile?
Try to create a new SAS Profile. If the email address you enter is already in use, the form will tell you. If you have a SAS Profile, you might be encountering a password issue - click on “forgot password” and follow the steps. You can also send an email to sasprofilehelp@sas.com for assistance.
How do I check to see if I have a SAS Communities profile?
Once you log in to your SAS Profile, go to the SAS Communities site. If you have a SAS Communities profile, you will automatically be logged in. If you are not logged in automatically, you will need to create a SAS Community profile.
Do I need a new SAS Communities profile for this year if I participated last year?
No, you can use the same profile.
What if I have a SAS Communities profile under a different email address?
How can I update my account? Send an email to communities@sas.com, include the old email address and the new email address you want to use now.
Team Questions
Who needs to register?
Every member of the team needs to complete and submit a registration form. The team is not registered until this is done.
Why do we need to appoint a team lead?
There needs to be one person who is the focal point of contact.
What if my team lead changes?
Send an email to sashackathon@sas.com of the changes. Include your team name, the old team lead name and the new team lead name. This will also notify the SAS Hacker’s Hub team that the “owner” of the team profile needs to be updated.
What if we have new team members or some drop out?
If current team members drop out, send an email to sashackathon@sas.com, include the team name and the names of the team members that need to be removed.
If you have new team members who want to join, direct them to complete the registration process (SAS Profile, Registration Form, SAS Communities Profile).
How can I find additional team members?
Refer to the post on Hacker's Hub: "Interested in joining a team? Need teammates?". Follow the directions listed. Once a team / member have agreed to work together, the new team member can register as part of that team. Make sure to update the Team Profile on the SAS Hacker's Hub with all the team member names.
We cannot guarantee any additional team members.
How do I find a team?

Make sure to update the Team Profile on the SAS Hacker's Hub with all the team member names.

Where will my team get our data?
Each team is responsible for obtaining their own data. A mentor may be able to suggest complimentary public data sources, but the team should find and have access to primary data needed to address the problem.

What training resources are available and when?
All accepted participants will be granted limited time access to the Learning Portal.
What resources are provided (Training, Mentor, Cloud Environment, suite of products, etc.)
- Learning Portal
- Cloud Environment running SAS Viya (more details about the environment will be posted closer to start date)
- Each team will be assigned a mentor
- SAS Hacker’s Hub
How will SAS Hackathon contact me?
We ask for email on registration. Email is the official form of communication. If you are not seeing communications, be sure to check your email's spam/junk folder. Make sure you set "@sas.com" on your approved sender list.
How will our team Mentor(s) contact us?
Each team will receive an email, introducing their Mentor(s). The mentor(s) will contact the team and together, they can determine the best method of communication for them. Options could include email, phone, Zoom, Teams, etc.
Will there be a formal interview with the team?
No. Interview scheduling in various time zones is a challenge with a global hackathon, so consider the team profile in SAS Hacker’s Hub your interview. Please make it as clear, concise, understandable, and professional as possible.
What can I expect from my mentor?
- Welcome meeting to agree on expectations
- The mentor is a guide and “trouble-shooter”, but, the mentor is NOT going to do the work for you.
Do I have to travel or attend anything in-person?
No. Everything is digital and/or virtual.
Can I share posts on social media about my journey in the program?
Yes, we encourage social media sharing and promotion. #SASHackathon
Are there prizes?
The SAS Hackathon provides participants with access to valuable learning resources, unparalleled guidance from experts and hands-on experience with the latest technology at no cost. There’s no monetary prize. Teams own their IP (intellectual property) and have the opportunity to pursue commercialization.
Qualification / Acceptance to SAS Hackathon
What is needed to qualify?
- Choose an Industry/Technology track.
- A Team, minimum 2 persons, up to 10.
- A use case description. What’s the problem you want to Solve, and how are you going to approach the problem, from technology, process, people and value viewpoint.
- Data to support the use-case. (No personal data, needs to be anonymized)
- What technology will be used (in broader sense) - Products/Open source are you going to use so we know what will need to be supported
What skills are needed to participate?
- We are encouraging the creation of multidisciplinary teams.
- So, a developer/data scientist profile together with a businessperson and perhaps a storyteller.
- A person that is familiar with SAS, in combination with open-source skills from a technical point of view is always good. Or take the training in advance to learn.
What happens with my intellectual property (IP) after the SAS Hackathon?
