Use Case As part of the SAS Hackathon, our focus will be creating an OSTP Program Finder Dashboard. The goal of this project is to create an interactive and user-friendly tool that allows students, parents, and school administrators to easily find out which Out-of-School Time Programs (OSTP) are available at different schools and grade levels.

Overview

The dashboard will allow users to:

  1. Select a Grade: Users can choose their specific grade level using a drop-down menu.
  2. Explore Available Programs: Once a grade is selected, the dashboard will display the available programs (e.g., STEM, Arts, Sports) across all participating schools for that grade.
  3. School and Program Insights: A map or table will show the schools offering the selected programs. Users can filter by program type to see which schools provide specific options like STEM or tutoring.
  4. Program Information: Detailed descriptions of each program (e.g., STEM, Arts, Sports) will be provided to help parents and students understand the nature of each offering.
Why This Project Matters:
  • Parents and Students: This dashboard will simplify the process of finding extracurricular activities based on the student’s grade level, making it easier to engage in programs that align with their interests.
  • School Administrators: The tool can also be used by school administrators to track program availability and ensure equitable access across different schools and grade levels.
  • Accessibility: By making the dashboard mobile-friendly, parents and students can easily check program availability on the go.
Key Features:
  • Interactive Filters: Users can filter by grade and program to instantly see which schools offer those programs.
  • Program Details: Each program will have a description so that parents and students know what to expect.
  • Visual Map: Schools offering selected programs will be visualized on a map, making it easy to find nearby schools.
Best Practices:

Simplicity and Usability: The dashboard will focus on providing an intuitive, easy-to-navigate interface. It’s important that users, especially parents and students, can quickly find the information they need without confusion.

Mobile Accessibility: Ensuring that the dashboard is mobile-friendly is crucial for accessibility, allowing users to browse program options from their smartphones or tablets.

Scalability: The dashboard will be designed in a way that it can be easily updated as new programs, schools, or grades are added in the future. This project has the potential to improve program awareness and engagement by making extracurricular opportunities more accessible to everyone in the school community. I'm excited to continue refining the dashboard and explore the impact it can have on increasing participation in after-school programs!
