SAS Programming Professionals,

I am looking forward to catching up with each and every one of you at the end of my 1,484 mile trip to Denver!

How do I know that it is 1,484 miles you ask?  Well, I used the ZIPCITYDISTANCE function in this handy program to calculate my mileage:

/* Distance to Denver using US Zip Codes */

data gointodenver;

  denver_dist = put(zipcitydistance(20850,80202),comma.);

  label denver_dist = "My Travel Distance from Rockville to Denver";

run;

proc print noobs data=gointodenver label;

run;

Ah, I see my International friends shaking their heads because US Zip Codes don't really apply to them.  No worries; I've got you covered!  Get out your atlas, look up your longitude and latitude, and plug them into the GEODIST function in this program:

/* Distance to Denver using Longitude and Latitude */
data gointodenver;

denver_dist = put(geodist(39.085920,-77.174389,39.7392,104.9903,"M"),comma.);

label denver_dist = "My Travel Distance From Rockville to Denver";

run;

proc print noobs data=gointodenver label;

run;

Oh right; you like Kilometers more than Miles.  Okay, then change the "M" to "K" and you've got it.

So, how far are Y-O-U willing to go to get to SAS Global Forum 2018?????

Best of luck in all your SAS endeavors!

Looks like I'm only going about half as far as you, @MMMIIIIKKKKEEEE. Keep in mind, I'm still a new SAS professional 🙂

Paul,

It's not how far you travel; it's where you get to in the end that counts.

Um, at least that is what the meme on LinkedIn said...

Best of luck in all your SAS endeavors!

Woo hoo! I can participate in this without being able to run the code. 🙂

If @ChrisHemedinger's distance is 1,457, then so is mine.

@ChrisHemedinger and @ShelleySessoms are taking the long way.  My flight itinerary says it's only 1,445 miles Smiley Happy

I had to split my journey up, because we're driving to Gatwick tonight, then flying from Gatwick to Denver tomorrow, but I've left the distance in miles for easier comparison, but I'm sure I'll be beaten by the Aussies:

Nicely done, Phil!
I'll bet that you get 3-times the benefits that I do from SAS Global Forum 2018--if distance traveled is any indicator...
Best of luck in all your SAS endeavors!

Don't forget your commute to the airports @Vince_SAS.

RDU's ZIP code is 27560.  It's ZIP code center is 5 miles closer than my home ZIP of 27613.

DEN's airport ZIP code is 80249, making it even closer.  ZIP distance between the airports is 1,439 miles.

Making a small adaption to the code I posted in a similar thread last year

Furthest Great Circle Distance to Denver, CO

City Country Distance (km)
Curepipe Mauritius 17272.8

Location data from mapsgfk.world_cities

The furthest more populous area would, similar to Orlando, FL would be on the Western shore of Australia.

Personally, my travel distance is about 2,580km but had this been a few years ago, when I lived in Denver, it would've been easily walkable.
