It's great to see all the sessions you all are interested in a SAS Global Forum 2017! I'd like to add a several handpicked sessions that speak to topics a few active community members identified as important on the Data Management Community. Here's a synapsis of that discussion.

DarthPathos expressed interest in all topics using Base SAS, including how to create a data dictionary for an SQL server database and ways to handle missing values for different types of datasets.

Below are a few related SAS Global Forum 2017 events. Note that the Super Demo schedule is TBD and that the actual papers will be available on the below links following the conference.

SASKiwi requested info on ways to encrypt in-flight data between external RDMSs and SAS. Here’s a pertinent session:

He also expressed interest in connecting to external databases using connection strings to decrease the need to configure outside of SAS. Related resources include:

And for SASKiwi’s suggestion for techniques to improve the reading and writing performance of data between SAS and external databases, consider these events:

LinusH added several ideas here as well, including many questions about SAS Viya, such as what and how SAS Data Management products will be implemented into SAS Viya. Various events to check out here:

For his question on mapping tools, don’t miss the session, What's New in SAS® Data Management, by SAS Data Management Sr. Manager, Software Development Nancy Rausch.

LinusH also asked about plans to integrate more attributes through SAS/ACCESS, and there is a breadth of SAS/ACCESS sessions to choose from in this regard.

Lastly, he hit on a topic I know you all know and love: SAS and Hadoop integration. It would be great, LinusH says, to see a comparison of data storage options (e.g., Hive, SPDE, SPD Server, SASHDAT, etc.). Some related sessions:

I'm glad to see my e-poster listed here in the suggestions!

I also highly recommend a preconference tutorial "Dimensions of Software Quality: Introducing the ISO Software Product Quality Model to SAS® Practitioners", which is based on the book "SAS Data Analytic Development: Dimensions of Software Quality" by Troy Hughes.  Although it is advertised as a "Software Quality" course, there are many tools discussed that support robust data management.  I have gotten some valuable tips.

Looking forward to all the intellectual stimulation coming up at SGF plus the awesome kickback party!

Will there be any sessions related to using SAS with SAP HANA?

Hi TBarker,

No, there aren't any sessions on using SAS with SAP HANA. But please stop by the SAS/ACCESS booth in the Quad area at SAS Global Forum to talk to the SAS Data Management team (Ron Agresta, Jeff Bailey, Tatyana Petrova and others) about how the two work together.

Best,

Anna
