Font and style on mainframe

Hi,

I’m running following code on mainframe in a JCL and receive following warning.

goptions reset=all
  noborder
  dev=png
  GSFMODE=REPLACE
  gsfname=ud
  xpixels=300
  ypixels=40
  AUTOSIZE=OFF
  FTEXT=VERDANA;

data anno;
length style $ 8 text $ 31 html $ 200;
xsys="3"; ysys="3"; hsys="3"; x=5; y=50;
style="Verdana";
size=46;
text="Hello world";
position="0";
html='href="http://sas.com" target=_blank'; output;
run;

proc ganno anno=anno name='hello';

run;

************
WARNING: Font VERDANA could not be used.
Font SIMPLEX substituted for font VERDANA.
************

Does anyone know how can I make SAS to use Verdana font ? Is it possible on mainframe?
Thank you

Re: Font and style on mainframe

Verdana is a Microsoft font, so it's probably not on your mainframe. You can check with your systems administrator to confirm.

OK, thanks.

I’ll check.

I get the same warning with almost any font therfore I thougth it could be an option somewhere which I have forgot.

Re: Font and style on mainframe

SAS can use any TrueType font on MVS provided that the font file exists somewhere on the system.  Once a copy of the font is available on MVS, simply register the font using the FONTREG procedure to begin using the font with SAS.

According to Wikipedia, the Verdana font was available on Microsoft's website as freeware up until 2002 but newer versions of the font must be licensed now.  Follow the link below for more information about the Verdana font.

You might consider looking for a Verdana substitute from the long list of freeware fonts available from Google Fonts.

Re: Font and style on mainframe

Just a correction to my code above.

The style should be in quotation marks.

data anno;
....

style=" Verdana";
....

run;

I have found which fonts are installed in our server by running following code:

proc registry list
startat="core\printing\freetype\fonts";
run;quit;
