Using Machine Learning and Customized Reporting to Guide Product Development and New Product Usage

The performance of a drill bit depends on the manufacturing design, how customers use it and where they use it. The drill bit industry has no "one size fits all." Therefore, drill bits are customized for the customer's usage. To add difficulty to the problem, conveying the strengths of certain designs is not straightforward and usually requires highly technical knowledge commonly possessed by a drill bit design engineer. In this presentation, we detailed how we created design metrics to bring customer-facing transparency to the design process, using machine learning to recommend new product usage based on similar product designs. We brought everything together to easily extract insight from our data using SAS® Visual Analytics for reports.
