Due to climate change, extreme weather has become more frequent across the world. In the last couple of years, floods have caused major economic and emotional loss in Sweden. By quantifying climate risks, we are able to grasp the extent of possible losses and prepare for extreme scenarios. Using the geographical functions in SAS we can calculate distances on a map between the property’s location and the riverbank and the distance of the different levels of flood, gathered from Swedish MSB. Using these distances and the different levels of flood, we can create a cumulative distribution function measuring the risk of flood for any given property. By assigning a loss value following a flood, the aggregated value at risk for an area or a portfolio can be measured. a portfolio can be measured.
