At Discover Financial Services, we have a very stable SAS Grid environment. In response to mandatory reporting requirements for financial institutions, we migrated our environments to the cloud. To be successful, we needed to process terabytes of data in a few hours instead of days. I have seen other tools fail at 100 GB, but SAS processed 5 TB. This presentation will detail the steps we followed. We'll discuss the early migration journey from on-prem SAS Grid to SAS on container and tuning tips for SAS programs when accessing cloud databases. We have a single application/workbench for users to select the containerized tool of their choice. We'll also touch on using detokenization UDF of cloud database through a hybrid SAS implementation. With SAS® Viya® 4, the entire SAS environment is containerized and provides integration with other open source tools like Python and R. We will discuss the benefits of using SAS on containers even before we had SAS Viya 4. Containers on the cloud provide an elastic, scalable environment, and the combination with orchestration tools like plain Kubernetes or Openshift makes it a very stable, elastic and scalable environment.
