At a customer site, we were asked to update their SAS environment. The version was a SAS® 9.4 M3 BI Server installation. The customer was already using the opportunities of SAS Visual Analytics. They were also still using Web Report Studio for many reports. Several thousands of jobs had been built using Data Integration Studio, using various standard and non-standard transformations. This presentation addressed the challenges we faced when researching how to approach the migration to SAS Viya. We wanted to use Viya primarily for reporting and advanced analytics. Since many of the data preparation steps available in SAS Data Integration Studio are not yet available in SAS Viya, we opted for a hybrid installation with SAS® 9.4 M7/8. That would give us time to evaluate the performance of SAS Viya and start preparation for the migration of data preparation jobs as soon as more functionalities become available. We have migrated all reports to SAS Viya successfully. Our focus is redirected to upgrading our SAS®9 environment, which will integrate far better with SAS Viya. The goal for the coming years is to start migrating from SAS®9 to SAS Viya for all data preparation jobs as soon as new functionality is added. The customer can create better insights with the new options that SAS Viya offers.
