From the impressiveness of pattern discovery and the interactive decision tree growth to running multiple predictive models at one time fairly quickly, data mining would never be the same as those very early days of SAS Enterprise Miner in 2002. Fast-forward to over 20 years later when SAS Enterprise Miner is still around, but a new tool has been added to the toolbelt. SAS Viya offers some of the same functionality that made SAS Enterprise Miner so desirable for data miners, but it now includes a whole new world of reimagined tools for data analytics professionals. Undergraduate students in two data mining classes were the test groups for determining the best tools to use as part of a university’s new Academic Program partnership with SAS. One class used SAS Enterprise Miner, and the other used SAS Viya for an entire semester. Students were given similar projects and asked to evaluate their experiences at the end of the course. The results of this analysis will be shared during this presentation. As a preview of the results, SAS makes data mining easy, no matter the tools!
