Hello,

I would like to generate a SAS map for the UK to plot data for regional areas.

However I am a little confused regarding the "region" and "ID Name" column in the SAS Map

For example:

Region name E has an assigned ID name of Bedford in UK2 SASMAP

But, when I look at the UK Regional Postcodes (List of postcode areas in the United Kingdom - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) , these do not match.

So my question is:

How in sasmapsUK can I get the UK regional post codes to match?

Especially when the number of Regions in SASMAP UK is 94, and the number of regional UK postcodes is 125.

Thanking you for your help.

Best,

M.

Hi:

Have you looked at the documentation on using SAS maps?  SAS/GRAPH(R) 9.4: Reference (reference comparing tradition maps to GfK maps)

If those do not answer your question, then your best bet for help with SAS maps is to open a track with Tech Support. They can refer you to one of the map experts for resolution. And if the maps are wrong, only Tech Support can open a report to have the information corrected.

To open a track with Tech Support, fill out the form at this link:

http://support.sas.com/ctx/supportform/createForm or you can call them at 919-677-8008 to open a track.

Hello Cynthia,

Thank you for your note.

I have looked at the reference document you suggested while googling info. While this document makes sense, I still cannot understand why the regions are so different to the British Postcodes.

I am aware of the geocoding function that can convert, but this seems like a considerable amount of work given the number of datasets that I have.

I think that the sasmaps is a bit of a specialised niche and so I think it best I open a technical query.

I will post the resolution to this thread here as soon as I have a solution.

Best,

M.

You might be able to download and import the map shape files that suit your needs.  For example, this public geodata site offers several UK-based resources.

Once you have the shape files, you can import them into a SAS library using this technique:

Hello guys,

I contacted SAS tech support and recieved a call this morning telling me that the Maps I had were infact outofdate and so did not match the actual UK postcodes.

Because I am working in restricted environment it is not possible for me to use any open source.

SAS did not offer much help after this, so still lost as to how I am going to get the regional UK postcode map.

Best,

M.
