I'm not sure what the end goal is.

However PROC PRINTO is generally used for the log and lst output.

     INPUT DAT :$10. NUM;

2/11/2007 456

run;

/*If you want to print to report window*/

PROC PRINT data=sample;

RUN;

filename outfile "/m/thisfile.txt";

data _null_;

set sample;

file outfile;

put dat num;

run;

/*output to excel format*/

ods html file="/m/thisfile.xls";

proc print data=sample;

run;

ods html close;

Actually your code just creates a SAS datafile.  You can find a lot of examples on the web for creating a text file.  E.g., take a look at: http://ciser.cornell.edu/faq/SAS/write_delimited_file.shtml
