Hi

We are currently doing a large deployment of EG 4.1 in our bank with a remote SAS 9.1.3 server. We are moving away from PC SAS installations. All SAS code is expected to run on server only.

Question:
Is there any way to generate macro variable based filenames with EG 4.1 Export/Import wizards for files being exported/imported from the desktop PC ? Any workarounds/tricks in case this is not possible ?

Our users previously used a combination of proc upload/download & proc import/export on PC SAS to generate various excel filenames using macro variables as an automation technique. I'm trying to find ways to replace this functionality with our new setup.

Regards

Hi
Assuming the SAS Server is not under z/OS:
If the excels would be stored on a share accessible by the SAS Server and the users then the upload/download part could be skipped.
Proc import/export should still work as before - and if this is coded then using macro vars shouldn't be an issue.

The SAS server is an IBM AIX 5.3

The server technology stack is all 9.1.3 components.

Share access: Both Samba or a windows NFS do not offer secure n/w transfers (as they just open up a share) and hence not possible in our corporate environment due to policy.

Libname SFTP cannot be used in 9.1

Any ideas on proc download replacements ?

Hi

Not that this is really my field of expertise - but I can't agree with your security objections.

I've worked for more than one bank (where security gets high attention) where things like this were possible (mostly using unc paths).
