I haven't used Enterprise Guide for a while and currently don't have access to it, but I remember that one of the frustrating aspects for users was having tasks appear in the menu that required products that we didn't have licensed. Given that many folks only use one server, and that presumably EG could check the server to determine which products are licensed and installed, do people think it would be useful if Enterprise Guide could do this automatically, say when the user starts a session or changes servers, and gray out the task options that are basically unavailable due to lack of licensing/installation?

Hi @MikeRhoads,

It's a little more complicated than that, as you could be working with multiple servers with different topics, and some tasks begin as "server ambiguous" -- that is, we can't tell where they will run until you finish clicking through them.

However, SAS admins can control the menu items and other capabilities via the SAS Metadata Server, using the feature to control access to EG capabilities.  This isn't as automatic as your suggestion, but it has been in place for several years/releases.

Thanks, Chris! Personally I'd still like to see something a little more automated, especially for the significant (?) number of users who exclusively use one server, but I do understand that admins can take their own actions on this front if they are so inclined.
