Spotify is one of my favorite music apps. I particularly like the "genres and moods" lists - I can find the perfect line-up to listen to while running or having an impromptu dance party in the living room with my kids. I found this article on Spotify using deep learning, a field of machine learning, super exciting. With the new technique, "playlists [will] pick up on bass drums, vibrato singing, and ambiance, among other traits ... even songs with a similar pitch, guitar distortion, and other qualities." So cool! And very smart.
