Is there a way to do this using the Principal Component Node, or do I have to add Sas Code?  Or am I trying to do something that doesn't even make since?

Covariance or correlation is commonly used as an input to principal component.

Or my memory is failing me.

So I think the methodology is valid. It should be an option in PC node I would expect(?) but if not you may be stuck processing it manually first.
