SAS Information Catalog Replaces View Measure Details (and More!) in SAS Viya for Learners 4
SAS Viya for Learners has been updated from SAS Viya 3.5 to 4.0. Included in the many new features available in SAS Viya 4 is the new application SAS Information Catalog. This is accessible by selecting Discover Information Assets from the hamburger menu in the upper left of SAS Drive:
One of the best features of SAS Information Catalog is its ability to describe the variables in a dataset and their values.
In SAS Viya 3.5, descriptive statistics on measure variables could be obtained by selecting View Measure Details in the data pane in SAS Visual Analytics. This is an example of the output:
SAS Information Catalog in SAS Viya 4.0 replaces (and enhances!) the functionality of View Measure Details and shows descriptive statistics and other information on all variable types.
First, type the name of your dataset into the search bar of SAS Information Catalog, then select and open the dataset from the search results:
To view information about variables in the dataset, click the Analyze data button:
Then select Submit request:
You will be notified when the analysis has finished running. Click View the analysis:
Let's explore the new analysis!
The Overview tab lists the variables in your dataset:
Clicking on one of the variable names shows graphics and descriptive statistics for that variable via the Column Analysis tab:
Clicking Descriptive View on the left takes us to the overall view of the Column Analysis tab. Descriptive, metadata, and data quality information can be shown for all variables as well as for individual variables.
The Sample Data tab displays the dataset in a rectangular format:
