by SAS Employee jennifers_sas on ‎07-22-2014 01:18 PM - edited on ‎10-05-2015 03:24 PM by Community Manager (4,210 Views)

A new version of SAS University Edition is now available that will address several performance issues.

How do I update the SAS University Edition vApp?

Throughout the year, software changes might be available for the SAS University Edition vApp. You are notified about these updates through the SAS University Edition: Information Center page. If updates are available, a message and an Update button appear in the Notifications section.

If your software is up-to-date, the Update button is not available, and a message confirms that your software is up-to-date.

Note:

These software updates do not include any licensing information.

Renewing your license for SAS University Edition is done yearly and requires a new download of the SAS University Edition vApp.

I started the SAS session July 22  4:55pm.  It said checking for updates then it said SAS UE is up to date.  I still have the RUNNING problem.

Thanks for your help.   I love SAS.

Sorry everyone!  It's taking way longer than we expected to get it mirrored out on the external server.  Hopefully it won't be too much longer.  I'll post once I get word the job is done.

We should be good now.  Let us know if you have any issues updating.  And thanks for your patience.

Amy and Jennifer

Thank you thank you.   The SAS session found the update, and updated my SAS UE.

I ran some programs and then typed a new program, It all worked well.

Not exhaustive testing but what I had trouble with before works fine now.

We love SAS.

It looks like after i updated my SAS University Edition it no longer works without the Internet Connection.

I first shut off the Wireless on my my Laptop .  I  then start the Vapp  via the Oracle VM Virtual Box  as usual. In the absence of Internet  connection it usually take a couple of mins of longer to bring up the black screen window which gives us the URL to type ie  http://localhost:10080 . This slowness was present even before the update. But when i type the URL in the Browser for eg Chrome and launch the SAS Studio from the Welcome Page i get the following Error message :

Error.jpg

Before the update , i had seen this Error only once in the absence of the Internet connection and after that it always worked in the absence of Internet even though it was slow to login to the SAS Studio. But now i get the above message. Also if i turn on the Wireless now  i am able to successfully launch the SAS Studio and login to it.

I  guess i will have to report this to the SAS Tech Support. but in the meantime is anyone else facing the same issue?  Thanks.

I started the update last night, and it still says it's updating. I even restarted my computer (iMac) this morning, and after I go to localhost:10080, it's still updating. Shouldn't be taking this long, right? Anything I can do to get out of the update? I was hoping to use SAS today. (OS X 10.9.4, VirtualBox 4.3.12, Chrome 36.0.1985.125)

Did you resolve this issue?  My update is taking way too long.

@maisha  Do not use Oracle VM VirtualBox .It is right now unstable.  As stated above i still have the problem with the SAS University Edition (SUE) that i mentioned above which i believe is related to the UPDATE and Oracle VM VirtualBox. I  then tried VM player and then installed the SUE version compatible with the VM Playerr . It resolved my problem above.

Try installing the VM Player and the SUE version compatible with the VM Player and check if you can sucessfully update your SUE software.

Please post your Outcome here once you tried the VM Player.

I just updated SAS university in virtualbox and everything is working great. I don't know if it is just me, but this version feels faster than the previous one. Thanks for everything :smileyhappy:

@drvenom    Did u try to Access the updated Version of SAS University Edition in the absence of Internet Connection?  I would say that this is the real test for Software's ability to be faster or not.

I am having difficulty in downloading SUE in single shot because of intermittent connection in my place and SAS website prevents usage of download manager. Is there a workaround for this?

I am having the same issue as maisha and heydjm (several months ago) - is it the oracle VM virtual box for MAC or not? If not, then is there a fix?

It will not let me start the SAS studio wwithout updating the "notification".

I was having issue with "notification" updating (it continued installing for over 4hours so I just stopped it when I got home) - oracle virtual box for MAC. I just removed the application and all corresponding information for that virtual box (via trash) then reinstalled the same version again. It works fine now.

It is checking for updates for longer than expected. It's almost 4 hours. Still checking .........

Start SAS Studio button is enabled, But hitting on it, leads to a

Service Temporarily Unavailable page.

Anyone have same issue with them ?

My computer is 32 bit. I installed this freeware using Oracle VirtualBox and I got following message;

"This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot – please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU ".

Can I use this freeware in 32 bit computer?

Hi , University Edition does indeed require a 64-bit computer.

My SAS University Edition is taking too long to open. After clicking Start SAS Studio, i am directed to a blue screen, which is only showing 'Loading'; earlier the system didnt take this much time to respond. It was opening in 3-5 minutes. Started facing issues today. I reinstalled SAS University Edition, and still facing the same issue. I am using VMWare as virtualization software.

My Laptop configuration are:

64-Bit;

4GB RAM

Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.
