How to ask a question in SAS Analytics U Communities

by SAS Employee jennifers_sas on ‎04-25-2014 11:00 AM - edited on ‎10-05-2015 03:32 PM by Community Manager (3,566 Views)

To ask a question, you must create a new discussion. When asked, choose the community which is the closest to your topic. Don't tag your question to an existing discussion. Take a little time to prepare your question. More specifically :

  1. Search the community before you ask your question. If you're a beginner odds are the questions been asked before, maybe not specifically in your format, but in general. In fact, you can also use Google.
  2. Be as detailed as possible with your question. We get that your data is proprietary, but if we can't even see the structure of the data then its hard to help. Use a good Subject line.  "How to Extract a Submatrix" is better than "Newbie Question."
  3. Use simple language. You might be an expert in nonparametric statistics, but other readers are not. Explain your problem so that a reasonably smart person can understand.
  4. Supply example data in a data step if possible.  Also, include what your output should look like.
    • Important: Do not include any data or information in your posts that is confidential or that contains the personal information of other individuals.  Remember that all information you post here is publicly accessible
  5. Try something. Don't just ask question after question, you can learn a lot by trying out things and seeing what works and what doesn't. It's a computer and a program, so if you make a mistake it shouldn't be too catastrophic. Just don't delete your companies database :smileyhappy:
  6. Avoid posting in multiple forums. There are sometimes reasons to post the same question in different forums, but rarely is there a good reason.
  7. Be respectful, people are here of their own free will. Their time is their own, so don't pester people for responses, and if some one does not want to answer they don't have to. If someone only provides a method instead of code that is their choice. Don't send personal email to someone, even if you have questions about their response.  Keep the discussion public so that all can see and learn from it.
  8. Mark answers as helpful and correct as appropriate. It helps future users narrow down what responses to look at.

Following these guidelines will help to make the answers as prompt and as accurate as possible, therefore it works in your benefit.

If you're having download issues, the shortest route to a solution is to send email to SASAnalyticsU@sas.com. The guidelines in the article above offer a good framework for describing a problem such that someone can easily help you. If you've successfully downloaded University Edition or SAS OnDemand for Academics and have run into a usage issue, start a discussion in the SAS Analytics U Community using the guidelines above.

The program can't install because APPVlsvsubsystem64.dell is missing in this computer. I've downloaded the program but it is not installing; I've already downloaded Oracle_VM box according to the link you provided but the VM box is also not installing. It ask for the App in which it has to open. Please help

I have an excel sheet which has more than one entry for some variables for a given obervation. It looks something like this:

IDAll Managers
Amount
123ABC
XYZ
PQR
20.952
11.64
9.312
124ABC
XYZ
PQR
204
156
5436

I'm new to programming so any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

There are no delimiters either. When I read it from sas it also looks exactly like the table above.

But I want sas to read it like the table given below ( where the multiple entries are separated in to rows):

IDAll ManagersAmount
123ABC213
123XYZ24
123PQR342
124ABC204
124XYZ156
124PQR5436

Hi @aaou, glad you found the SAS communities! You are more likely to get a fast answer if you post your inquiry as a new message on the Analytics U Community: https://communities.sas.com/t5/SAS-Analytics-U/bd-p/sas_analytics_u Experts are keeping an eye on the discussion forum, not comments on this library article.

Hi @adegboye, you don't offer much detail here, but you need to post a question (with as much detail as possible) in a discussion forum, like the Base SAS Programming Community: https://communities.sas.com/t5/Base-SAS-Programming/bd-p/programming

Hi @ahuq002, your likelihood of getting a helpful answer will increase exponentially if you post your question on the appropriate forum and compose your question as indicated in this article. You can find a list of forums by visiting the home page and clicking the "Find a Community" arrow. Very few of your fellow SAS users will see a question added to the end of an old thread as this one is.
