You realise I'm going to lose sleep thinking about all the Free Data Friday posts I can do with these new features, right? :-)

Morning all :-)  I'm having problems downloading the file on my Macbook.  Can i download the file onto another computer and transfer the file to my laptop, or is there another way I can get the file?

thanks so much for all your hardwork with this!

I've tried twice to get the update via the SAS Information Center browser page but I get the same error:

"The download did not complete. Make sure you are connected to the internet and try again."

I am definitely connected to the internet! The download progress bar nearly got to 100% before the warning note above appeared, but it stopped at different completion points.

This happened during the last update, and I got around it by downloading the *.ova file fom the SAS UE getting started page.

If I try to download the *.ova file directly from the SAS U getting started page, I get warned that I've downloaded SAS UE several times before (true, but new editions each time!) and advised to contact support. I feel like a trouble-maker!

I guess this is just the ftp server cluster behind the scenes getting real busy??

@Damien_Mather that's the same thing I'm getting, only i get to about 54% and then it stops.  Tried on three different Wifi networks (same computer) without luck.  thanks for confirming it's not just me :-)

I watched my third attempt and it canned out at 53% - close to what you saw. I monitored download speed all the while and my ADSL2+ broadband connection at home gave me a steady 1MiB/s download right up to the cut-off. I also checked by broadband modem and there were no errored packets during that download. Do you think we should just download the *.ova file from the getting started page, delete the old *.ova and import the new one into the VM box? Will I get marked as a 'serial ova downloader' by SAS?

LOL I'm already flagged as a serial offender so I'm trying to be good (I was doing testing with SAS Support about some issues and downloaded the OVA 8 or 9 times in the space of 48 hours....oops :-))

hoping we get this soon - i want to start playing!

Apologies to all that are having issues doing an update.  Short story – if you have a problem updating, just go back to the main download page (http://www.sas.com/en_us/software/university-edition/download-software.html) & get a new file, set up the same shared folders you had before, and you should be good to go.

Longer story – several things are going on here & some have good answers & some don’t.  Since this is the first release where it actively reminds you to go get the update (pop-up when you open SAS Studio versus having to remember to go look at your Info Center), we’re getting way more traffic on the update server and since the update server is only in Cary, NC, there are latency issues.  I’m not sure what we can do about that, but will work on it.  The download page is hosted all over the world so it's always going to be faster from that perspective.  The other thing that’s going on is there were some things that can happen during both the download phase & the update phase of the update process that can hang up which we’ve found during our own testing and have put some fixes in place to handle.  The bad news there is that the fixes are part of this update which means they don’t do you any good right now – but should hopefully make the next update process better (when another new release is pushed out).

We would love to collect data about any issues you’re having so if you have the time to contact support (SASAnalyticsU@sas.com), please do so we can get more details on what’s happening to you.  If you don’t have time, totally understand – just go get a new copy so you can get the work done you need to.  Thanks!

Thanks for the explanation, Amy, much appreciated.

SAS continues to lead in customer service by example.

I understand how network latency can affect file transfers. In the last corporate software system I architected, I had to wrangle sftp timeouts everywhere in a global system to get them to work most of the time, and still had the odd failure.

That explains nicely why I've mostly had to download *.ova files and re-import to upgrade SAS UE. There are many benefits to living on an island in the south west corner of the south pacific, but low global network data packet latency is not one of them.

BTW I did try to download the new *.ova after my last posting but after about 20 minutes of uninterrupted download at my maximum ADSL2+ broadband speed of 1MiB/s, after approximately 70% of the file, that download also abruptly failed. I'll keep trying...

I'm emailing SAS Support right now - thanks @AmyP_sas for being awesome as always :-)
