Backup your reports in SAS Viya for Learners

It is not possible to retrieve a previous version of a report, but there is a workaround available.

To get around this issue, you would need to take an offline backup of the report, so that you have a working copy to go back to. If you do not want to have an offline backup, you can save the report with a different name to have another copy of it available. Offline backups can also be used to restore during a later course on SAS Viya for Learners.

To save an offline backup:
1. Open the report in the browser
2. Press Ctrl + Alt + b
3. A window will open up and you will see XML under the tab called "BIRD"
4. Copy the contents (all XML code) from the window to a text editor like notepad
5. Save this file - this is your offline backup

To Restore (on the same tenant):
1. Open Visual Analytics ("Explore and Browse")
2. Create a new report so that the canvas is visible
3. Press Ctrl + Alt + b
4. Delete the entire XML program under the BIRD tab
5. Open the text file you created when backing up
6. Copy the contents of the text file to the BIRD tab
7. Press Load

Your report should now be visible. There is a chance that you can get data source errors - so you will need to search for the tenant name (eg. v4e011) in the text file and replace it with the current tenant you are logged into (e.g. v4e018). Once done, please redo the copy-paste steps above and the report will be visible.
