360 Workflows: Process for Customizing Workflow's notifications made easy by introducing 360 APIs

Why to customize 360 Workflow Notifications?

 

360 Customers licensed to use 360 Workflow might want to customize workflow notification templates like having their organization's logo in the email, changing header and footer as per their organization policy, updating the body of email etc.

At the backend, 360 workflow have properties file associated for each notification. 

 

 

Traditional/Old process of customization

 

SAS consultants had to raise a tech support track to receive notification’s properties file for which they need to do customizations.

After updating the properties file, it is uploaded into the client’s 360 tenant (QA or PROD).

 

Drawbacks

 

The traditional way of uploading customized notification's file had many drawbacks.

 

Few of the drawbacks are listed down:

 

  1. Dependency on Tech support team for uploading every change (even the minor change).
  2. Time consuming as every change has to be implemented via same Tech support track that usually take significant amount of time.
  3. No framework available to upload and test the customized files before final upload into the client's tenant.

 

Resolution by introducing new 360 Workflow APIs

 

The drawbacks of the traditional method discussed above were resolved by introducing new 360 APIs.

 

The new 360 APIs were:

 

  1. Get customized or default template
    • This 360 Workflow API extracts the customized workflow email template if that exists otherwise would return the standard template as an output.

  2. Upload customized email template
    • This API uploads customized workflow email template to requested tenant.

Benefits

 

Introduction of above mentioned 360 workflow APIs resulted in many benefits to SAS consultants / Partners.

 

Few of the benefits are listed below:

 

  1. No dependencies on Tech Support team for extracting or uploading notification files.

  2. Least time to extract the notification file from the tenant.
  3. Immediate upload and testing possible for the customized notification files. 

 

Conclusion

With the addition of few APIs like above we have improved efficiency and have saved big time and efforts of SAS consultants/Partners and OfCourse 360 customers.
