university edition importing .dat files

I'm new to SAS and have no idea how to use, but i need to use it for a project at my universtiy.
so my question is really simple, how do i import a .dat dataset?

Re: university edition importing .dat files

.dat is a file extension that is not "copyrighted" - meaning, that could be anything in it.

I've seen some posts in these communities where .dat files occurred to be old SQL Server export/dump files. If that's the case, chances are that they are close to useless in their current condition - get the data in another file format.

It's also just as likely to be a text file. Make a copy of the file and open it in a text editor. If it looks like text then you can use a straight proc import or data step to import the data.
