newbie libname help

Hi

I am following the Accessing Data in SAS Libraries tutorial and am running into the following error.

NOTE: Library LIBSAS does not exist.

59

60 data libsas.europeancars;

61

62 set sashelp.cars;

63 where origin="Europe";

64

65 run;

ERROR: Library LIBSAS does not exist.

NOTE: The SAS System stopped processing this step because of errors.

NOTE: DATA statement used (Total process time):

  real time 0.00 seconds

  cpu time 0.00 seconds

66

67 proc print data=libsas.europeancars;

ERROR: File LIBSAS.EUROPEANCARS.DATA does not exist.

68 run;

NOTE: The SAS System stopped processing this step because of errors.

NOTE: PROCEDURE PRINT used (Total process time):

  real time 0.00 seconds

  cpu time 0.00 seconds

69

70

71

72

73

74

75 OPTIONS NONOTES NOSTIMER NOSOURCE NOSYNTAXCHECK;

87

I tried with the example given in the tutorial. Along with supplementing, as you can see in the log, with my own shared drive. I am also including my code.

libname libsas'C:/Users/James/Desktop/SASUniversityEdition/myfolders';

data libsas.europeancars;

  set sashelp.cars;

  where origin="Europe";

run;

proc print data=libsas.europeancars;

run;

I am running the university Edition through VMware player with the shared network folder going to C:/Users/James/Desktop/SASUniversityEdition/myfolders. The shared folder works because I am able to see my saved programs.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

James.

Re: newbie libname help

Usually you reference the folder as:

libname libsas 'folders/myfolders';

Re: newbie libname help

Thank you for answering.

Your are right. I had to give it /folders/myfolders/cars/libsas (which I had manually created in my shared folder). I have just finished a long shift as a nurse and my brain is a little frazzled lol.

I apologize for posting a question that probably has been answered a million times. But for the life in me my brain would just not engage.

Sorry

I have always had a interest in IT but had no focus. Figured at 32 it was time to get my backside in gear and finally do it. Plus I like been able to do something and see a result. Smiley Wink

Re: newbie libname help

Hi Reeza - stupid newbie error time for me too.

I think I have created the library, but it doesn't seen to notice it.. see attached.

Tried using the /folders/myfolders suggestions, still the same error.

Any help received with thanks (and yes, I deserve the eye-roll face-palm too)
