Using a sd2 dataset in SAS Studio

Hello,

I am trying to use a sd2 format data set in SAS Studio. I found the version 6 engine in the libname statement, but I receive an error when trying to use it. I have seen various places that version 6 sd2 datasets made on windows are not able to be used on other OS's. My commands were:

libname mydata v6 '/courses/d9949b65ba27fe300';

proc contents data=mydata.hnkr62fl;

run;

and the log file says:

56 libname mydata v6 '/courses/d9949b65ba27fe300';

ERROR: The V6 engine cannot be found.

ERROR: Error in the LIBNAME statement.

57 proc contents data=mydata.HNKR62FL;

ERROR: Libref MYDATA is not assigned.

58 run;

any advice would be welcome.

Thanks,

Corey

Re: Using a sd2 dataset in SAS Studio

I think that you provided the solution in your question:

" I have seen various places that version 6 sd2 datasets made on windows are not able to be used on other OS's."

I don't have access to v6 doc, but I think that your presumption is correct.

If that sd2 file is created under windows, you need to export it from SAS under Windows to a SAS transport file using CPORT.

If you have access to a SAS 9, it may work just to convert it to a SAS 9 Base engine file.

Hi @Coreysparks, your best bet for this sort of issue is to open a Technical Support track by calling 919-677-8008 or emailing support@sas.com. Somebody there should be able to get you going again, if you're still stuck. If you don't mind, post the solution back here so others are aware.

Re: Using a sd2 dataset in SAS Studio

Thank you @LinusH, indeed this was what I discovered. Since I only have SAS on linux, I ended up using stat transfer on our server to do the conversion, also the old SAS viewer can open the sd2 file and save it out as csv. Thanks again
