University Editions for EG / EMiner

Hi,

SAS University Edition through SAS Studio is a great way of learning SAS programming. I had a couple of questions.

1. Is there something similar for Enterprise Guide or Enterprise Miner that can be used in a learning environment?

2. Are the Statistics and Forecasting options available in the Tasks tab of SAS Studio somewhat similar to features available in EG and EMiner?

3. What can be achieved with the Visual Programmer option in SAS Studio?

Re: University Editions for EG / EMiner

1. SAS Studio would the EG like interface for the web, and will most probably replace that in couple of releases. There are nu Mining UI in the UE bundle. So you are pretty much left with SAS/STAT or IML programming to achieve similar tasks.

2. There are a few statistics tasks in SAS Studio. And some forecasting as well, but I presume that the latter requires SAS/ETS, wich is not in the UE bundle. Look in the product and the Users Guide for details.

3. Anything that you can do with programing and tasks, but now you can work with them in graphical overview (Process Flows), pretty much like in EG.

Re: University Editions for EG / EMiner

1. SAS UE has the process flow mode, which is similar to EG, but not exactly the same.  There are Academic On Demand versions of SAS EM that are available, under different circumstances.

2. They are somewhat similar. EM has the neural networks, classification and decision tree and model comparison tools available. EG and SAS are pretty interchangeable in terms of what you can accomplish, but I consider EM to be a different tool.

3. You can create analysis and process flows, but there are limits to the tasks so you may need to work with code as well as the GUI interface.

Thanks Reeza for your reply. The distinctions between SAS Studio, EG and EM make more sense now.
